your mother is from a different era...society installed different beliefs and values in her generation.you don't have to agree..but try to understand...her heart,it's in the right place.....she only wants(what she thinks) is best for you!

I have noticed a lot of time people that are family seem to think they are worried about future children of mixed race. From their generation it is not acceptable. After the children are born (or the marriage or relationship)survives the kids are still grand kids and are accepted. It does take time, for you and your mom to figure out how to deal with this disagreement, but maybe give it time and you getting older as she will and see how it goes before you make a final judgment on her being totally prejudice.

You have to ignore them. You aren't going to change them, but you shouldn't have to deal with them either. In a case like the one you describe you have to just tell the person you aren't going to discuss that topic. You'll discuss other stuff. If it weren't your mother you could just not bother talking to them at all, but since its your mother you have to set the boundaries on what you'll listen to and talk about and what you won't.

If that's no good enough for her then its her doing when you don't show up for Thanksgiving dinner.

Ideally, you would educate the people about why racism is very backwards. Unfortunately, most racists are below average intelligent and are hard to educate. So you may need to ignore them or, in serious cases, report them to the police.

Not to be stupid, but...is your mother not dark skinned? If you're hispanic, either she is or your father is. Right? So....she's prejudiced against people who are like her? Sounds like she's an idiot. You can do bad by yourself. Cut her out of your life.

Racism is born of ingorance. Love who you love. Don't base your decisions on others. Perhaps if you mothers spends time with someone of another race, she will learn they are just like her. Be ready to set the boundary. If she can't live with you choices, she might be best out of your life. It will be her loss.

Well, she didn't raise you, why would you have to care of what she thinks. Racist people are racist because deep deep down they are so insecure of themselves that they have to believe that at least their skin color is better. You will never change her, so simply avoid her.

I don't deal with racist people. But since your mother is racist, unfortunately you'll probably have to find a way.

In the end you will have to make your own choices in life. Is your mother in charge of who you will marry?
