Holiday Inn Glenmarie provides free shuttle service from the hotel to the KELANA JAYA LRT station. (check with your hotel receptionist to make sure though)
Start out at the KELANA JAYA LRT station, take the LRT to the stop KLCC : Petronas Twin Towers (it stops right under the shopping center part of the building - Suria KLCC).
From KLCC, take the same Putra Line LRT to Central Market, the stop is PASAR SENI. Check out the nice stuff there, and don't forget to bargain should you want to buy anything.
From PASAR SENI, take the same Putra Line LRT to TERMINAL PUTRA. From there, you can take a cab to Batu Caves, not far at all.
Going back, you can either take a cab directly to the hotel(easier), or take the cab-LRT-cab route back. I'd recommend a direct cab coz i bet you'd be beat from climbing all those steps up Batu Caves.
visit http://www.rapidkl.com.my for the LRT and Bus routes.
Your hotel receptionist should be able to help you in deciding routes.
Or, if all else fails, drop me a line and i'd be glad to help.
Enjoy your stay!

Hi! Good choice of visiting Malaysia! Yup the public transportation is pretty reliable especially if ure taking the train (commuter or LRT-light rapid transit). From the Glenmarie hotel site i was looking into, it says tht there is a complimentary shuttle to the nearest KTM train station, so i suggest u tk the offer. At the station u get in the komuter train which says 'Kl central' and from there tk another train to the station called KLCC-which is the petronas twin tower station. There is an alternative for u to tk the cab/taxi straight to KLCC but the train ride would be more fun plus u can see the locals and also the KL central station (where u exchange from komuter to LRT train) also sells many goodies n hv several shopping places u can visit. Basically is u hv to hv a look at the train route map n see where u can go from there. Some of the other interesting places within your train route is Central market (many many M'sian traditional goods are sold here, quite affordably too). There are simply many more places to visit but im not too sure what kind of stuffs are u into. If ure in for shopping Suria KLCC (located at the KLCC Petronas twin tower) is pretty cool boasting brand goods and also u can visit Putrajaya which is the Malaysia's new tourist attraction. It is kinda like 'Washington for the Americans' as we hv most of our ministries there plus our beautiful pink mosque, shopping heaven and just really awesome looking gardens n buildings inc the prime ministers official lodging. Im not too sure how u can get there from ur hotel, but try asking the hotel desk on 'Putrajaya' n im sure u can figure something out..hehe.. About the Batu caves the place is much further thn KLCC so im not sure either how u can get there.
Ok all the best..im just trying to help frm wat little travel knowledge i have. when i was back home in Malaysia i was an avid shopper in KLCC n the train was the best transport to get there..so im just stating frm my experience. Hope tht helped u out a bit ya..
cheers!

Hey there, welcome to Malaysia.!
You should consider MAria's answer. Her answer is pretty resourceful.
Central Market is also another tourist attraction. You will be amaze by the items sold there. You can go there by LRT, if i'm not mistaken, it's the same rail(i think it's called STAR LRT, if im not mistaken) as the one to KLCC, so, u can take the LRt from KL Central to Central Market, then KLCC.
Petaling Street is another tourist attraction. It's basically a street full of cheap stuff, however, do aware of pick pocket, esp those DVD vendors, they are often rude and annoying (sorry about that)
Merdeka Square (Dataran Merdeka) is worth visiting, too. THere's a national History Musuem located there, you should check them out. I myself haven't visited that musuem xP well, if u have good stamina, i think Merdeka Square is reachable on foot from Central Market, but, it might be confusing to get there...So, taking a cab is much more advisable.

If you travel by night, get the bus from Singapore you will reach Kuala Lumpur early in the morning, get the LRT to KL Central, and get the LRT to Petronas Twin Tower, the shopping mall (Suria KLCC) open at 10 am, you can shop, eat and might have time to see movie, come out of the KLCC walk across Jalan Ampang to Corrus Hotel, there they have bus to Singapore, if you miss that bus, go to Railway station there you can get bus to Singapore it is safe and reliable. Good luck

welcome to malaysia! from glenmarie u can take KTM Komuter to KL Sentral. from KL Sentral, u can go to Petronas Twin Tower @ KLCC. the trains charges is way more cheaper than cab charges. fom klcc, u can take a train to Terminal Putra and take a feeder bus or taxi to Batu Caves. actually u can travel straight to batu caves by taxi, but the roads are pretty congested. so, my advice is, take a train to terminal putra and then take a cab to batu caves... it is definitely cheaper and more enjoyable.
happy holiday!

Welcome to Malaysia
Im not very sure abt the taxi fare but u should hire separate taxix as u move from one place to another..that will be more economical....
My advice for u...stay in KL for 1 or 2 days only..u will get "more" from other states in Malaysia.
