3(2x-1)=7-40= -33
2x-1= -11
2x= -10
x= -5

7-6x+3=40
-6x=40 -7-3
-6x=30
now move the -6 to the other side of the equal sign

4(2x-1)=40
8x-4=40
8x-4+4=40+4
8x=44
8x/8=44/8
x=5.5
work the answer out
7-3(2(5.5)-1)=40
4(11-1)=40
4(10)=40
40=40

-33=6x-3
-33+3=6x
-30=6x
-30/6=x
