Why are divorces so expensive?? BECAUSE THEY ARE WORTH IT!!!!

All joking aside....divorces cost money. To lower your costs....here are a few tips:

1. Both of you have to agree that lawyers are like vultures and prey on your bad situation. They even goat you into a fight by saying stuff like "thats not fair...I can get you more" They don't make money unless you're fighting.

2. Both agree that it is in everyone's interest to settle matters between the two of you. Yes...both of you will have to compromise on issues and neither will get your way completely. But it is better than having a judge impose something on you that you don't like at all.

3. Both agree to abide by the existing state laws or follow it as closely as possible. If the state says a 50/50 split of assests then try to divide everything that works out to be 50/50. The details you two can hammer out without lawyers sending letters back and forth at $100 per letter.

4. Everything must be addressed and included in your settlement. That means assets, debts, child visitation, daycare, education funds, insurance policies, contents of the house, pensions, savings, investments....once it is settled and agreed upon....take it to a lawyer and have them draft it up....don't let the lawyer goat you into a fight. It's a lot of work and it's stressful but if you can do it....it is a huge savings.

5. Both need to agree to keep your emotions out of it. Otherwise it won't work. Do your homework and beat him to death by quoting law. And that's what would happen in court anyways.

6. If you can't agree on a few issues...then seek a professional mediator before going to court. Sometimes you need to hear it from an unbiased 3rd party and it is cheaper than court.

Just my thoughts.....good luck.

wow you can't really think that this in going to cost somebody
if you want to be cruel make him pay for it this is really easy to do . my wife did it . and i would say it hurt more than words can even say . i didn't fight and still ended up costing me a fortune . i just think before you do anything remember you're not always going to be as angry as you are now and you did love this person once divorce is horrible and we say and do allot of things that lets say are not the greatest . if you want the divorce then you pay . some time horrible things push us to this point but you don't have to lose your self respect . hey here is a thought get on your knees and ask God trust me your going to need him . I'm not trying to be mean i just wouldn,t wish this for anyone.

Divorce filing in it's own, it's rather inexpensive honey. It only gets expensive when you drag lawyers into it or their is property to divide or a prenup involved. If you and your soon to be ex are on speaking terms, file pro se and reach your own agreement as to how things are to be divided. If things have gone past that point, then consider hiring one lawyer to work for the both of you in coming up with a sound and fair agreement that the two of you can agree to. If that's not an option, then separate, move to another state for six months where the divorce process is as easy as buying a cheeseburger.

have you tried getting on divorce court or if he is in jail to get a divorce from jail in most states only cost $1.00 or at least in missouri that was what they cost but he has to be in there for a little while and you have to show that you can't make it with him alone and need a divorce from him cause that way you can get more from taxes you may also want to consider just going to the court house and asking at the court house if you need lawers to get a divorce or if you can get one with out any money hungry lawers good luck hope all works out for you
