I heard from someone who knew him that he was a real "perfectionist"...drummer had to hit the drum just right, or, start over. That can fry up some people s patience...studio time is not cheap. But, if you listen to his music, it withstands the test of time. I think it is awesome, the guitars, drums, everything...IMO - great music. So, maybe there is something to be said for making sure each part is done just right, whatever he as the artist envisioned it to be. Some people aren t that way. I say "**** them" if they don t like it, can t drive themselves to that level. I heard the same thing about other artsts...Buddy Rich was a REAL asshole...but, he also treated people poorly, yelling and screaming, belittling people. I don t know if JF was that way, and, if he was, you can forgive some of it as "passion", but, people like that also need help....today we call it "anger management". There are actually some good techniques to "cool off", and not get so emotional wrapped up in the "heat" of the moment...so, if he was/is like that, I hope he got/gets help.
