It is most definitely due to the timing belt/chain failing. When this happens, the valve timing is way off and it just will not run. To repair this, you need to replace the timing belt and have the proper valve timing esablished........all should be fine then. The small jerk came from where the teeth on the timing belt "shucked off" , causing the timing of the valves to jump off the mark.

If jerk was heard with a loud bang. You threw out a rod. It couldn't be the battery because batteries don't make noise when they run out of electricity.

By the description of your symptom, it sounds like your alternator failed, causing your vehicle to run on battery power, until all your battery died.

sounds like you broke a rod or something inside the motor

could be the oxygen sensor..causing it to over-fuel itself.
