I bought a Linksys WRT54G version 6 router and out of the box it simply DOES NOT work reliably. After upgrading the firmware and having the same connectivity problems persist, I searched google and found that hundreds of customers are experiencing the exact same problems. Why? Linksys switched at version 5 to using the VXWorks Operating System instead of a Linux based one. As an IT Professional I've always recommended Cisco and Linksys, but after this experience I would caution all against purchasing. They simply did not test the hardware sufficiently and plan to sell you a broken router with a promise that things will improve as they develop better firmware upgrades. Has anyone else had an experience like this?

I too used to think Linksys products should be of good quality in light of their association with Cisco. Unfortunately, It seems that their products suffer from serious quality control issues and I no longer recommend them.

I had the same model, it had similar problems like dropping the IP address at a random time. I got so frustrated because I didn't want an RMA but a complete refund, which Linksys wouldn't give me. Just throw out the linksys and get something reliable.
