Be careful. Sphinx period is NOT early civilization.
Early civilization is characterized by people living together (usually small groups). This was helpful for food gathering (hunting in groups) etc.
However, even these small groups needed rules. While certainly not written, these early groups had an order of things, rules and even leaders (the beginnings of political systems), all of which characterize civilization.
