I wish I was him... meaning I wish I never had one. It used to be that you didn't get one automatically at birth... I got mine at 16.

Once you get a social security number, you become part of the system. I'd tell him not to get it and get an attorney.

If it is so that his parents were maybe to lazy to get his SS#, then what he has to do may be several things. First does he know where he was born? Was he born in the US, or other. If he was born in a US hospital, then they will have proof of his birth., He has to obtain a copy of his live birth, take it to an attorney(legal aid) & they will help him receive a birth certificate and then go to SS office and he can get his #. The only other option is that maybe his birth was recorded at a church, or maybe a family member has it recorded in a bible somewhere. If he was born at home, a doctor or mid-wife might have his birth recorded somewhere, if so they may have to go before a judge who will issue him something that will help him. Where are this guys parents?? They should know something., unless he & them are illegally here in the US., then honey you in deep double dose of trouble., and his parents probably know that. Ask them, start there, thats where yu will find allot of these answers.

Go to the county court house of the town he was born in, or if that is too far to drive, call them and request a birth certificate. You will have to pay a small amount, I think here in Texas it is around $20-$30. Take this back to the S.S. office and request the paper work right then and there, do not accept "we will mail it to you". Good luck.

HE needs to obtain his BIRTH CERTIFICATE first -- where is the Birth Certificate -- if he was born and raised in California -- he MUST have a birth Certificate in the Birth Registry. Does he know which county he was born in (or the hospital name)? Even if his mother used a midwife -- there STILL must be a birth record.

IF he was homeschooled, he also HAD to have some record of his schooling -- there are required competency tests that he must complete to be able to have the equivalent of the GED or HS Diploma.

He can easily get a S.S. #. I didn't get mine until I was 16 years old. All he should need is a birth certificate and another form of Identification and fill out the forms and 6 weeks later he should have it.

It sounds to me like he's not trying very hard to get one.

He needs to locate his birth certificate. Then go to a SS office. You can get a birth certificate from the hospital you were born in.

As long has he has a valid birth certification he should be able to get a SS number. If he does not have one well then chances are he is illegal and he needs proof of documentation to attain a SS number.

He needs to go to the SS office with his birth certificate. If they deny again, get a lawyer.
BTW there could be something real fishy going on there so check it out, don't marry him until he gets his SSN, gets a job and drives a car.

i wouldn't marrry anyone who has no documentation of their identity or citizenship. this may just be a case of someone slipping through the cracks of the system... but it sounds like to makings of a good spy movie. was he born in the US? he should contact the county where he was born (division of vital records). for a fee he can obtain his birth certificate, but he will need identification in order to get it. did he graduate? he would have had to take tests in order to get a diploma, even if he was home-schooled. this sounds very suspicious to me. sounds like his parents have been living under the radar for some reason and now that he's out on his own he has no benefits of citizenship. sorry for him, but shame on his parents.

He was born in America, his parents must be American citizen or have a passport showing they are here legal. Parents file for ss number for all minor children. He must show prove of their citizen if not he will never be issused a ss. number. You cannot marry unless he has a ss.mumber, it is placed on marriage licenses.
