Personally, I've never liked pop music. I find it repetitive and often superficial. But I am curious about people who don't think like me.

Pop music simply referees to any style of music that is popular. Don't confuse Bubblegum with pop. All of your boy bands fall into bubblegum. All bubble gum is pop, but not all pop is bubblegum.
As for why bubblegum is so popular, the majority of your record buying public are morons, and radio stations are owned by the same corporations that own the record labels.

For any music to become popular it should be easy for any individual to him/herself to sing the song and easily get accepted. This is possible in pop music because only the rhythm counts and not the individual voice. Whereas in classical music the voice counts a lot and not many can master or imitate it therefore it is becoming less popular in the present days times. Also the days are going towards speed and pop music has that speed which other music do not have.

Actually the term "pop" is derived from the word "popular". If it wasn't popular it wouldn't be termed "pop".
Thats not the answer you want! I do think like you. Pop music lately is very boring. Its very "cookie cutter"ish. It all sounds the same. Don't you think Britney is not that different than Jessica? Most modern pop and rock music is very boring. Actually the best rock music is to be found on the "classic rock" stations.

I don't like it either, but I actually took a media/popular culture class in college, and they asked a question similar to this. By survey and poll, most people liked pop music because it's catchy and therefore easy to remember - they can sing to it and dance to it easily; in other words, it doesn't take a lot of effort to be "cool". Also, it people said pop music brought them together, especially in younger people. It's a common thing they can share with their friends.

I don't understand it, but whatever! I say bring on the rock ;)

Many people are repetitive and superficial so it makes sense to me!

Because they market to people who are concerned with liking music or styles that are considered cool. It has nothing to do with substance or thinking for yourself. It's just what music can they sell to people concerned with their image above anything else. (I think emo can fall into this category too.)

I'm sorry that sounded a lot meaner than I meant it. :)

I just like the music...don't pay much attention to the lyrics...I just like anything with a good beat though. I love to dance so maybe thats why?

because is made for an audience, when you make a song it should be for you, doesn't matter what others think, but when you make a pop song you make it thinking about who you want to sell it to, it doesn't matter if you like the song, what matters is that others like it

*puts on valley girl accent* because it's so, like, yeah and like... yeah!! i just, like LOVE britney spears because she, like got pregnant and she, like, is a really good role model. and um... um... christina aguliera. she knows how to, like, teach little girls how to dress...

*talks normally* pop music is annoyingly repetitive and the genre is full of clones... i prefer rock myself, but i will listen to PCD.
