Yes, the show is very interesting because it uses real science with just a touch of fiction (although the science part is far from the only reason why I love the show). Kerr-Newman black holes are black holes with angular momentum (rotation), a peculiar concept which gives it two event horizons: one inner and one outer. While the "Kerr metric" provides a feasible solution to Einstein's field equation, modern astrophysics often disregards this theory as valid (for reasons far too complicated to explain here).

Instead, the Stargate uses a fictional super-heavy element called "naquada" (also "naqahdah" or "naquadah") which is capable of storing massive amounts of potential energy. This energy is then released to punch a hole in the fabric of space-time and connect one conducter (Stargate) to another across the galaxy or--if the charge is massive enough--in another galaxy entirely. In this case, the wormhole is artifically created and maintained and is entirely independent of an outside, unstable singularity... and good thing, too! Relying on a black hole to get you home would be tricky business.

I haven't heard of Kerr space warps just black holes related to the Kerr solution. Those types of things (wormholes and the like) would still need a very massive object to form the black holes. In the Stargate series there are small gates on planets that don't seem to interfere much with their surroundings. It seems to me that this is pretty different- obviously a black hole can't just sit on the surface of a planet. If we ever use phenomena like these it is likely that there will also be a lot of side-effects from using them (wouldn't it affect time as well? more like "sliders" :) ).

Anyway it's a fun idea and I would be damn happy if we ever discovered how to do something like that so easily.

The characters on the show refer to it as a wormhole.

And about the answers saying it is just TV, you asked for it by using the word "actually" in your question.
