Hello! As far as testing and certification requirements are concerned, you have to first fill out an application and send in an application fee of $125. They also test your shorthand or you need to show proof that you earned the designation "Tested RPR" from the National Court Reporters' Association.

The Hawaii Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) exam covers grammar, spelling, technology, and medical and legal terminologies and for Hawaii, regional terminology. There's also the shorthand portion of the test. You need a 95% accuracy rate for the skills test and a 70% accuracy rate for the written knowledge test to pass.

Also, please note that before you can be certified you must have a GED or high school diploma. Once you are certified you need to take continuing education to maintain your certification status.

As a Hawaii court reporter you can charge per-page rates ranging from $1.75 to $6.00 (original per 25 line page) and $0.60 to $0.90 (for copies per 25 line page) when preparing transcripts for the state of Hawaii or a political subdivision of the state of Hawaii.

You can charge $2 to $6 (original per 25 line page) and $0.90 (copies per 25 line page) to non-government entities for a transcript.

Good luck!
