"A study of sleep deprivation therapy was made in 62 females and 15 males, aged 20-72, with monopolar (60 patients) and bipolar (17 patients) types of manic-depressive psychosis. Of these patients, 30 had suffered only the current depression, 29 a maximum of five depressions, and 18 more than five depressions before the sleep deprivation therapy. " [Svendsen K.]

I'd think that sleep deprivation is people that don't know how to get to sleep. Like me lol. I'll go to sleep at midnight and wake up at 6 am and be totally refreshed. Therapy is fixing things. Soooo put that together.

Quack science. Sleep deprivation is not therapeutic for any known condition. Just like chiropractors or magnet therapy, some people will swear by it, but those people usually have a financial interest in it.

It is a component of an structured program of a specific type of behavior modification techniques, most often utilized in what the west calls "brainwashing".
For behavior modification, it is only one of a number of tools to effect the change in perceptions and loyalties. Sleep deprivation does not work by itself, the operator must integrate other techniques to achieve the desired results.

I've heard of this. My sister read somewhere that to treat depression, patients should get up really early in the morning and keep their usual bedtime. Some clinical study somewhere said they showed marked improvement. No way I'm trying it.
