Hi, I'm 20 years old. Has anyone ever had this happened? I didn't have a period for a full year and half until now. I've always been irregular. I've already had it for two weeks now. I've already been to the doctor, a few months prior, because I was worried. They did every type of test, and couldn't find nothing wrong. The only thing I've done different lately, is change my lifestyle *dieting/exercising*, and I thought maybe this could be the problem. Thanks, J.

The same thing happened to me, I had really irregular periods a few years back (I'm 22 now) and then had one that lasted 2 weeks and was really heavy bleeding the whole time. I went to the doctor and they did bloodwork and my CBC and iron counts were so low that they called my mom, then my mom called me and told me to go to the emergency room. By then I had become so weak I was having trouble walking and had to leave school to go to the hospital! They gave me hormones to stop the bleeding and gave me an I.V. and after that my doctor put me on birth control so I'd have normal periods. So my advice is, if you've been having your period for two weeks now, go to the doctor as soon as possible and tell them you've had your period for two weeks and they will give you birth control pills to control your periods. Don't worry though, my doctor said that it happens to a lot of young women and usually the periods stop being irregular by the time you're 24 (mine are semi-normal now, I am not on the pill and have one period every 2 months) Hope I helped!

Do you mean you have stopped dieting and exercising or started dieting and exercising? If you have been dieting and exercising a lot that could affect your periods.

I had very irregular periods when I was younger. They are not that unusual. There is actually a medical term for it. It is called oligomenorrhea. Missed periods, too frequent periods, spotting, or bouts of heavy clotting and bleeding are usually caused by an underlying hormonal imbalance that is easily treated.
