Clogs the filters, sometimes ruins the fuel pump. Tank and lines will have to be cleaned. It does NOT ruin a car engine. The sugar will NOT mix with petrol, and it will NOT get past fuel filters. You are about to read a LOT of urban legends about seized and gummed engines. It is false, I have handled claims on dozens of these, Marathon Oil did an intensive research project called 'Operation Sugar' -- all with negative results.

the truth,,its no myth,,sugar does mess a motor up,,i have been inbusiness for 36 yrs,,and have seen a lot of gummed up lines,,and it will pass a fuel filter,,i know,,i do work for over 200 different people in my home town,,and i have seen sugared tank,s it turns the gas a brownish look,,and slightly thickens the gas up,,but it will pass through a filter in to the engine,,if its fuel injected,it most likely will first stop up the injectors,,if it makes it past the injectors,,the sugar makes it not burn as good,,which leaves the liquid form of the sugar present,,and it becomes sticky,,and gummy,,which in turn makes valves stick open,,and i have seen it totally gum up a complete fuel system to the point that it wont even start,,i recently repaired one that belongs to one our police officer,s daughter,,we have ducumented proof of what it will do to a motor,,and what it could cost to repair it ,,people who dont know about things like this should not give out opinions based on hear say,,i based this answer on what i have seen,,and what the sugar actually did to the engine,,and if certain people think it wont hurt an engine,,maybe we should try and sugar there tank,,you think they would believe then,,if any one is that confident in what it wont do,,go out and pour a 5 pound bag of sugar in your tank,,and come back on here in a few days from now ,,and tell us it wont hurt one,,i have 36 yrs experience at seeing all kinds of weird things,,but one thing for sure is,,sugar will mess a vehicle up good luck with this answer,,i hope it helps

The heat of the engine will melt the sugar into sticky caramel, which will gum up the valves and other parts of the engine. I don't know how much sugar it would take to cause any real damage, nor how much would get past the fuel filters.

It doesn't do anything to the motor however filters and tanks and lines will have to be taken off and cleaned... this happened to a friend of mine its a big hassle but doesn't ruin the car

The engine is "totalled". Good thing for locking gas caps, huh?

Simply put, your engine will eventually die, it will make your pistons sticky and cylinder by cylinder, they will stop until it just dies, you will be stuck somewhere.
