the licensing guidelines vary from state to state. you will need to contact the state where you intend to get a license and ask them what the requirements are. check out the dmv website for some general information.

Most states of the union are members of the Interstate Driver's License Compact, which means that the actions against a driver's license in one state will affect the driving privileges in all other states.

If your license was suspended in New Jersey, and not permanently revoked, then you should contact New Jersey to determine the steps necessary to reinstate the license in that state. Then, you can obtain a license in your new state without any further problems.

If you have problems with this, I recommend that you consult an attorney properly licensed in your state. If you need an attorney and don't know one, contact your local or state bar association for a referral.

If it's still on your record, you're going to have to go back to Jersey to get it cleared up before any state will issue you a new one. Go down to the DMV and have them pull your driving record for you. They'll charge you around $5. Then you'll know.

Yes. The Department of Motor Vehicles is a state run agency, not federal.
