If you know the meat is fresh, it's okay once in a while. You never know what you could get; salmonella could just make you a little ill (like puking) but could be more serious in the very young or very old.
Best be safe. Grill them burgers til the pink is gone.

Salmonella is found in chicken. It E.Coli you are worried about with beef. The e.coli would be found on the outer portion of the muscle so cooking the surface kills it. The problem occurs when that meat is ground then the e.coli could be in the middle. So it's risky to do. Young children and elderly folks are most susceptible, so if your neither you can take a chance and not all meat is infected with e.coli, it occurs during the slaughtering process. It also has nothing to do with the age of the meat.

Yeah, it's ok. You will blow some wicked diarrhea if salmonella is in it but that only happens to me about once every 10 years. Well worth it for the hundreds of juicy burgers. But if you put habanero sauce on your burgers like I do there will be the ring of fire thing going on when blow it out your hole. But that is actually the most enjoyable part of the meal. Any more questions?

It's okay if it is a little pink in the middle but not much. If it is really pink you could alway microwave it for 20 seconds and that should take care of it.
