when i try to watch videos on youtube.com, for example, i can see the video fine, but i can't hear the sound! it happens when i play online games sometimes too. when i play cd's on my computer, my sound works fine and i can hear the music. i've updated my flash player, but i still can't hear sounds to some online things. what could be the problem? would it be a virus that my comp isn't detecting? i've run lots of virus scans, but nothing came up.

Do you have java, too? Have you tried to repair it? I am not sure what else it could be. Sorry. Do you have windows media? See if that is working properly? The only other thing I can think of is that those sites aren't working as well to distribute sound. I know that when I try to listen to music online, it comes and goes, so I do not bother anymore.:( I hope someone helps wioth more solutions. I wouldn't think a virus would do that,as you say your sound is good with your cd's. Do you have norton anti-virus or macafee? those are usually good ones. lots of luck to you.

when you watch video or play games online usually there is a separate option for volume control available on the site. Make sure you have turned on the volume on the site too and not just that of your PC.

Make sure you have the latest version of your flash player, you also might need a java runtime environment plugin for your browser...

it seems that the you have changed the flash player volume setting. try other flash app which has volume setting such as google video. hope it helps.
