That isn't true. Halloween developed from an ancient pagan festival celebrated by Celtic people over 2,000 years ago in the area that is now the United Kingdom, Ireland, and northwestern France. The festival was called Samhain (pronounced SOW ehn), which means "summer's end." The festival marked the beginning of the dark winter season and was celebrated around November 1. In the 800's, the Christian church established a new holiday, All Saints' Day, on this date. All Saints' Day was also called All Hallows'. Hallow means saint, or one who is holy. The evening before All Hallows' was known as All Hallows' Eve, or as it came to be abbreviated, All Hallow e'en. This name was eventually shortened to Halloween.

No, whoever told you such a thing should be shot. Halloween or All Hallows Eve is an ancient druid holiday tracing it's roots back to Ireland. The reason we carve pumkins is to imitate the traditions of said druids. They carved turnips because they were plentiful. It symbolized their dead family members and ancestors. The offering of candy is something similar to that of the original tradition of exchanging goods on this day. The words "trick or treat" was a form of barganing during this time in exchange for treats(food/candy/baked goods).

No, it has another meaning, I 'm not sure which it is, but it is not the devil's birthday.
Edit: now that I thought it, it can be and people don't know it.(suspense music in the background), but I don't believe so.
P.S.: Halloween is my favorite holyday.
