I was just wondering, since I have a Windows Diagnstics software in my Control Panel under Maintenance in which Compaq actually gave me, and there is a HDD test which performs tests like seek tests, noise tests, track and sector, etc. I was wondering if this detects physical hdd problems, and if a 100 percent and a Pass means that the HDD is fine... Just wondering...ty

Well, unless you suspect some kind of problem your normal backups of data should protect you in any case. So why be worried?

You run the diagnosis for that "warm fuzzy" feeling, but it does no good. The same thing is accomplished by successfully completing a session on the internet or other applications.

Run that diagnostic once a week for the feeling, then just use it.
