Pluto has been demoted. It didn't work and play well with the other planets so the scientists redefined what a planet was and kicked Pluto to the curb.

how big a deal is this?
I heard that becaue anything is difficult to remove from current classroom texts and that it will remain in print for 5-10 years, however that it's a mass of ice and not inhabitable and that it's not considered a planet anymore.

Nope, not a major planet anymore. I keep thinking of those poor elementary school teachers who are going to have to change their classroom mobiles!!!
