I don't have a good "original" excuse for you. But I won't forget one I read in Reader's Digest...sent in from someone who worked in the Human Resources Dept. of a company. She was the lucky person who got all the not-coming-to-work calls, her fav message:

I would tell them that you have a religious ceremony that you had to attend. Its too bad Ramadan is at the end of the month and then you could use that. I would make something up like the Festivus holiday.
