I play wing for my travel team, and sometimes i get confused where to be. I watch the teams play 4-3-3 in world cup, and the wingers such as Robben, Van persie usually stay really wide and spread the defense, and they often get the balls on their feet and make plays. I think my best ability is dribbling, and im quick enough to get past defense and run down the lines. I usually stay really wide, and make runs down the wing. Im wondering if i need to stay little closer to the center forward, and makes runs to the middle.

The traditional winger recieves the ball in a wide position or brings the ball down the flanks to deliver crosses into the box. That's where teams that play wingers want to use their wingers' pace and mobility.
But as a player that supports the attack, you want to use your abilities to a greater effect. You don't always have to do what a winger usually does. You also don't always need the ball. The winger's real weapon is Unpredictability.
Move around on your side of the pitch off the ball. You can get yourself into space to provide your teammates with options, or sometimes you can just run to draw the defender away from your teammates. Move inside, move outside. Give the defender a hard time. Spread the defence thin.
On the ball, run at them and exploit every opening in the defence, no matter whether its in the middle or outwide. If you play more flexibly, you'll find yourself with more options to shoot or set up plays.
If the defenders never know what you're going to do, they'll find it harder to shut you down. That presents yourself as a bigger attacking threat and you can only be even more useful to your team that way.
Don't confine yourself to role. Use your imagination and make things happen. That's what the best wingers do.

Too begin with, for a winger you need an extremely high level of stamina and speed. I disagree with Josh with one thing, the winger's ultimate weapon isn't their unpredictability. I actually think it's their weakness: They always attack from the sides, pass back to the center if they can't keep running, cross towards the center at the other end, or come through the middle for a shot. The winger's ultimate weapon is their speed and that they are able to be open for a pass at all times and sprint for a quick offensive attack through the side of the field.
4-3-3 is not a great formation for Wingers because in a 4-3-3, the 3 in the middle should stick together into the center so they can defend the center and provide passes to the 3 forwards in front while the outside defenders take care of the opponent's wings if they use any. The 3-5-2 is the best for wingers (it's the formation that Spain usually plays with) because you have 3 defenders to cover the center, the Wings to defend and attack the wings, 2 experienced center-defensive-midfielders to tackle the opposing team's center strikers and provide the Wingers the ball so they can launch an offensive attack through the sides and provide crosses to the 2 center strikers for a header or to sprint towards the middle and pull the trigger.
In reality Van Persie is a striker would often moves through the sides if he can't penetrate the defense from the center but Robben and C. Ronaldo are the best examples.
You can move towards the center forward position for the sides on the other end of the pitch only to take a shot on goal.
BUT WHAT'S MOST IMPORTANT ABOUT WINGERS IS THAT THEY MUST BE IN THE OPEN ON THE SIDES OF THE FIELD AT ALL TIMES, OUT OF SIGHT AND LAUNCH AN RAPID OFFENSIVE ATTACK WHEN THEY RECEIVE THE BALL.

your job is to stay wide, sprint from the halfline to the byline (must be really fast) , receive the ball, bring it forward, cross it in or square the ball to the centre player... if the ball is at the opposite wing, move in closer a bit to the centre forward but not in the box... if defender decides to overlap you, try feed him the ball or if the ball is not with you, cover his place for a while. pace, dribbling, passing accuracy are factors for a winger.

you need to be fast, especially with the ball, dribble well, , and they are supposed to spread the defense by staying wide, and then playing through balls or crosses in, or else penetrating themselves with the ball. some of it depends on exactly how aggressive your team wants to be, the more aggressive, the wider you should be and the more you should attack

you could go in your yard and practice your touch and go on youtube and look up messi and christiano ranaldo and watch how they play or go on youtube and look up"soccer tricks to learn step by step" and find out some and use them in practice only until you master them. and as for defense you just gotta get back, keep up with the attack and always force them to the outside push them to the out of bounce line and hold them there but dont stab just contain them until they make a mistake then you go in and grab it when they do
