If you're asking whether there's any way to tell how many memory sticks are in your computer without opening up the computer, then the answer is NO!
More than likely they went with the cheapest configuration they could, so you probably have 2x126 in there if I had to guess. I've opened up way too many computers in the past and found the memory banks filled with the cheap ram. Even my new notebook that I bought 2.5 years ago had both slots filled with the cheapest ram they could get, so they haven't changed a thing after all these years.
Actually, I'm surprised you're even asking about a computer with this little ram in it. I recently pitched a whole punch of computers, parts and memory for these old ones, because I couldn't find any buyers for the parts.
Anyway, if it's a tower you can take the cover off and leave it off until you get the additional ram installed. I have run towers that way for a couple months. If it's a desktop, just put the top back on and don't put the screws back in if it's a pain. Just remember they're not in when you go to pick it up again so that it doesn't fall apart in your hands.
On some of the real old PCs, we're talking way back, it use to tell you in the CMOS what amount of memory was in what location, but I suspect you're computer is newer than that.

if you have a hp or compaq, go to their website, and open a chat session with their tech support... from there, give them the model num, and they will tell you what kind it has, and what the maximum capabilities of your motherboard are.
If it has XP is is most likely 184 pin ddr, if you bought it anytime soon, I would say a speed of pc3200 or faster (400Mhz)
Most newer computers do not have 2x128 ram, usually 1x256
THAT IS SOOOO, NOT ENOUGH RAM... XP REQUIRES 256 MINIMUM.... SLOoooW COMPUTTTTEEEEERRRRRRRr rrrrrr !!!!!

Usually you can find the specifics from the computer maker. Look up the model and series, possibly the serial number, and hey usually tell you everything the thing came with.
