Buy a prepaid cell phone. The only thing is I don't think any of them can play music. I might be wrong though. But prepaid is the best deal. You won't be stuck with a contract that you can't get out of. I had a cell phone from Cingular and my bill was extremely high. I never really used it except to call home or talk to my husband at work. All the extra taxes and fees didn't help much either. Now I have a prepaid cell and it is so much better. Net10 is the best deal. You get more minutes for your money. They even come with 300 minutes to start out with. And yes the minutes roll over, but just make sure you buy a new card before the card due date or you lose your phone number. The phones have text messaging too. But they cost minutes. Text messaging isn't great for either type of cell phone. Even if you got a plan and text messaging was 10 cents a text that adds up. It doesn't seem like it would but that is one thing that made my bill so high. With a prepaid cell you can buy as much minutes as you want. If you think you might use it a lot buy a lot of minutes. If you really won't use it much, buy less. It might change from month to month.

I think a 13 year old really doesn't need a cell phone. but my answer would be if I was getting my 13 year old a phone I would buy them a prepaid phone called Tracfone. You can them for twenty dollars and you just buy a card to add minutes every time. and you only have to add minutes every 2 months . Thats what I have and just love it. I can control my cost on it.

Cingular, Suncom, and Tracfone all have prepaid phone plans...but why does a 13-year-old need his/her own phone?

It's a mystery to me.
