Hi I am moving to Kaiserslautern area next year, and I have to get from the airport in Frankfurt to Kaiserslautern on my own. What is the easiest way? Also fairly cheap, I don't want an hour taxi ride.

You are going to love how easy the train system is in Germany. Deutsche Bahn There is a train station at the Franfurt Airport and you can get to the main station (Hauptbahnhof) in Kaiserslautern (Kaiserslautern Hbf) with a connection at Mannheim Hbf. It will take between 1.5 - 2 hours, depending what train you take (ICE is a fast train, RE, RB are slow trains) and what time of day. The best thing to do is use the http://www.bahn.de/ web site and klick on English and follow instructions.

You can easily buy your tickets when you get there or buy them on line.(I always found it to be the same price).

If you are going to be in Germany for a while, look into special rate cards that will make your travel cheaper.

And while in Kaiserslautern, remeber to cheer for the Rote Taufel (the local football club)! Shoene Reise!

Are you coming for the US Military? Civilian work, or a job with DoDDs(US Military school system)? Maybe you can catch a ride from somebody else at the Frankfurt airport? You can maybe check with where you will be working, they may be able to set up a ride for you? If not, then your best bet money wise is the train. P.S. Depending on where you are in K-Town as the Americans living there call Kaiserslautern, you may think you are still living in America......

You can Book a Trainticket directly at the Airport, The train Stops Directly under the Airport. Your Travelagent or the Airport Personel should be able to Help You with that. Do not take a Taxi.It takes 2 to 2 and a Half Hours to Kaiserslautern, if Traffic is Bad. And German Taxis are Expensive. We are talking a Couple Hundred Dollars.
