My friend's birthday is tomorrow, September 11. Every year ever since it happened, he has been sad on his birthday because it seemed like no one remembered his birthday and they were all too preoccupied with remembering the anniversary for September 11, 2001.
So, I was just wondering if anyone had an ideas on how to cheer him up...I already made him a birthday card, and I got him a really cool present that I know he will like.
All I need are some ideas on how to cheer him up tomorrow, and ideas on how to avoid the 9/11 subject.
Serious answers please...thank you.

Why don't you make a surprise birthday party? I mean I know it's a bit late to start thinking about it but call up his friends and some other people and invite them over to your house. Go out and buy a cake and some ice cream and have everyone bring over chips and some coke or something. Then when it's all set up have everyone be quiet and call him up, tell him you would like him to come over for a while.
Not only will he be shocked, but he'll be happy to know that he isn't being ignored at all.

I can feel for your friend I too am a 9/11 b-day. My friends usually try to keep the day as normal as possible. We celebrate but we also remember. I don't avoid the situation I embrace the situation. I am very thankful for what I have and I am proud to share my b-day with all of those that died helping to preserve what I cherish so much. I just try to live for those who no longer can. It took a very special person to help me see that maybe you can help your friend see that too.

you have to remind him that he had birthdays before sept 11 and they were all good. even though it is not a good date he has to realize that him being upset isn't going to stop the feeling of tragedy. maybe you can talk him into celebrating the people who survived. i know it's hard but as time goes by he will tend to lighten up. maybe going to the site and laying flowers or something first thing in the morning and than have a happy day still knowing that he still took time to remember

3000 people (someone's fathers, mothers, sisters, and brothers) died in a tragic event and he's bummed about a damn birthday party? Tell him to cheer up, he's alive and no one he loved perished on 09/11/2001. Serious enough for ya?

Well, it pretty selfish for him to think only of himself, I mean all those people died and he is alive!!! So, just let him no how much you love him and let him know how lucky he is to be celebrating his birthday and give him your present and your love. And he is just going to have to get over it at some point. Just remember to make an extra effort for his ego has been bruised. Good luck!

Contact your common friends and organize a "surprise" get together party, this will definitely cheer him up. You mentioned that nobody remembered his bday but you did! So all you should do is to remind your friends about it.
