I've had those ants a few times over the years. It always seems to happen in the kitchen, and no matter how clean you keep it they still seem to come.

The way I got rid of them is to get a cheap bottle of boric acid powder (a very mild and safe form of ant control you can get at places like Home Depot and Lowes in the pest control section next to the gardening supplies). Also get a small container of mint jelly (I think this type of jelly must work better than others because I never hear of people using any other type when performing ant control.

Mix two tablespoons boric acid powder per 10 ounces of mint apple jelly. Take a thin piece of cardboard or a doubled over piece of paper and tape it firmly against part of the surface directly over the pathway the ants are using and make thin rows of the boric acid jelly solution on it, thin enough for the ants to get between so that as many of the ants have access to the edges of the jelly as possible. Some will get stuck in the jelly, but many will take bits of this stuff back to their nest and feed it to the rest of the colony and queen. You may have to replace the paper or cardboard with fresh jelly daily for 3 or 4 days, and then they'll be gone for good.

I had the same problem! We tried everything with no success. Then one day, someone reccommended we treat the ants from the outside and not the inside. Ah-ha! Why hadn't we thought of that?! LOL So we went the local Home Depot and purchased some pest spray called Ortho Home Defense Max. We sprayed all around the house and we also sprayed around the baseboards inside - for good measure. I am happy to say we have been ant and bug free for over a year. We do occassionally have to spray after a heavy rain, but that is much easier then dealing with bugs.

Have you tried Terro? These sound like sweet-eating ants and they love Terro until it does them in of course. I pour a couple of teaspoons in a small plastic Dixie cup and put it under the kitchen sink and the bathroom too if you notice them in there. I have to do it every year but usually get results within a day or two. Also,my grandmother used to plant lots of mint around the foundation of her house to keep them from coming inside. She never had a problem after that.

How about keeping your kitchen clean? Use windex often to remove scent trails. Couple with ant traps, and you should see those ant disappear in a few days.

You need to spray. Then try and locate where they are coming in from. Try and locate their nest and kill that too with ant
poison. That will stop them.
