I don't consider any one person the most intelligent that ever lived.

Some people are more intelligent than others but not everyone that is considered a genius is necessarily smarter in every facet of every subject in the universe. You can roll off names like Einstein, Newton, Hawking, Da Vinci, or Benjamin Franklin but when it comes down to it they are all humans and not everyone is an expert at everything. This is why people specialize and work as a team and do research. Every genius in the world did not invent the wheel, but rather took what was available from their predecessors and built on it from there. To credit anyone as being the most intelligent, it would not be fair to whoever came before them.

There is also no standard for really measuring one's intelligence. For instance, you can conceivably argue that Kasparov is the smartest person ever since he can outwit the best supercomputer in the world at chess, but if you had to pick a brain surgeon, would you trust Kasparov or a real doctor that actually spent their whole life dedicated to medicine and neuroscience? Even Einstein would have to admit that the definition of "intelligence" itself is relative.

For all we know the most intelligent person that ever lived might be a woman or perhaps a hermit who wisely chose never to seek publicity for it.

DaVinci was a flippin' genius. Of course I knew about a thousand people would say Einstien, because that's the obvious answer, but Davinci was an amazing artist, anatomist, inventor, theorist, and he was just plain awesome. He invented early forms of the tank, helicopter, plane, boat, and came up with a lot of medical theories. He invented the trebuchet.

King Solomon was said to be one of the wisest.

You know the funny thing about geniuses is that their mind is so involved in their work and thinking that they almost completely forget the simple things. There was one musician who was like that. His wife tied this shoestrings for him, and helped him with everyday things that most people know or remember how to do.

I doubt there's a common consensus on this, but I personally think William Blake. He was a man before his time, already writing of psychological theories in his work years before they were put into use.
