Would think that the shortest possible age difference would be even less than that, as the woman could get pregnant very shortly after giving birth to the first child & the second one could be a premature birth.
BTW, you certainly CAN have children less than 12mo. apart & it's common enough that someone coined the nickname "Irish twins" for this occurrence. My sister was born 10 1/2 months after I was.

She then got pregnant again within 2 weeks-and this is very possible- and gave premature birth to child #2 on July 15th. If the child survives- again very possible- the siblings would be 7 months and 14 days apart. This is not an exact time frame as infants with gestation of only 5 1/2 months have been known to survive. Also to those who think that you can't get pregnant for 3 months after the birth of your baby, that is not true. Is is possible to get pregnant within 2 weeks of giving birth- maybe even sooner.

May friend got his wife pregnant with her 6th (yes 6th) whilst she was still in hospital after giving birth to her 5th!

So on that basis that she was pregnant within 5 days of giving birth, and the fact that early births have a high percentage chance of living it is possible that a birth could take place after about 8 months or slightly less than the birth before.

Would be very unusual but it is possible, so as i said 9 months and 17 days is a very plausible answer.

It is very possible for them to be 9 months apart. I have male friends that are 7 months apart, the first one went to full term , the second one was premature. They are in their forty's now and they are as close as if they had been twins
