I would be less worried about looking dumb than being cold.
If you're going to spend most of your time indoors and only be outdoors briefly (like from your house into your car, and from your car into a restaurant), I think you'll be fine. But if you're going to spend more of your time outside (like walking around town), you may want to go with a jacket instead of just a shawl. I've worn shawls before and they are drafty and can slip off. Brrr!

I am going to be in an ohio wedding in November in a knee length strapless red dress. Though i don't necessarily approve we have to wear black shoes with these dresses and knowing Ohio anytime of year, it is going to be breezing so i am going to try to find either a shawl or a furry shrug (the short sleeved jacket things that are in fashion now. I don't think it will look bad (unless you bring along a green tote or somethng). but if you wear it stylishly than no, nothing wrong with that at all.

Well I think it depends on where u are going. If you are going to a intimate dinner with someone, then its okay. But if you are going to an outside event like a romantic walk on the beach before you go out to dinner or wherever, then I think its a bit much. But I think it will be kinda cute if you'll eventually be going inside.

Go with a large scarf instead of a shawl.

If you mean fifty degrees above no problem. It depends what you are comfortable at, at that temperature. I wouldn't have any trouble with that at all, but I from northern Canada.
I also depends if you are going with a date and wouldn't be uncomfortable wearing or borrowing their jacket if they offered and you were chilly.

I do not think so.
Just as long as you compliment the shawl with something else.... like some black shoes or something like that.

what I always say to myself is that if you like that outfit and the combination wear it. don't worry about what people say because it's better to wear something that makes you feel better than wearing somehting to satisfy people
