Don't let anyone else choose your event for you. That'll be an unmitigated disaster. (I teach writing and issue a similar prompt. I've seen the papers that result from that sort of advice.)

Instead, start by making a list of events you already like to talk about. You're looking for one that makes a good story, for which you can recall (or find) lots of details. The more details you can remember, and the more interesting the story is to you, the better the resulting product will be.

Since your instructor is requiring dialogue, you'll have to cut any ideas that didn't involve at least some talking, but surely you have a story along those lines. (My sister frequently tells one about getting lost with a friend at camp, and how they had to stop fighting to figure out a way back, for instance. That's the kind of thing you're looking for.)

One trick: Try to figure out why the story is important to you. There's probably something that makes it subconsciously signifiicant to you, and if you are aware of what that is while you're writing, it'll come across in the story without you having to tack a "message" onto the end (which always looks ham-handed).
