especially the late 90's. I just gotfinished watching some music videos from the 90's on youtube.com and I can't help but think that music back then was better than music today, especially ballads. is this true or is it just nostalgia? God bless you all.

Omg. On the contrary...BIG time. By that time, we were getting overloaded w/ boybands & teen divas. All clones of each other & interchangable. We were DEF' at a low point musically..

Man, you make it sound like So long ago. Lol! It's all relative, but you must be Way young.

If you think you missed out on *good* music, give music of the 60s & 70s a try. Why do you think So many current songs sample one from those years & use em in tv commercials & movie trailers?

No. After the early 90s, you did Not miss a Thing...

EDIT:

Well, nails- personally, I cannot see how acts like The Spice Girls, NSYNC, Color Me Badd & the Backstreet Boys can even come *close* to people like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin & Stevie Wonder, for example.

Basically after MTV really started taking hold, that's when the downhill slide began IMO. MUCH more of a focus on image as opposed to quality. It was already Really bad by the 90s. And look where it's taken us today-

American friggin Idol...

I think bands from the 90s appeal to me more cuz they still have solos..well nowadays every band just powerchords it ...while back then they actually have good lead guitars and innovative ways to mix music with toher instruments... thats just my opinon

like listen to sleater kinney-One Beat
most of it is just fingerpicking and that song is great
not that stuff today isnt good and talented...i just like the 90s and below better cuz it seems more experimental..

There may be a chance you are missing some of the stuff that is coming out of the woodwork. If you look for your music only from MTV and radio stations, you're missing stuff. You've just gotta find the cracks.

true music was better in the 90s. the music was true and it had a meaning behind it. now artist just make music to sell and make music. ex: the pussycat dolls who the hell makes a singing group of 6 or 5 girls and only one sings?

I think music was better than it is now, mostly becuase everything was more unique back then. There aren't that many artists sharing the same beat or something almost the same. I feel there was more originality back then then there is now.

Every generation feels their music is better than everyone Else's. You must more closely identify with 90s music so it resonates with you more.
