Cancer. Mentally and physically. When you actually know that you might die soon, makes you realize that you are no longer invincible. Physically minus one breast. Even with an implant it is different. Also my hair is thin and I have a bald spot. So every time you look in the mirror you are reminded.

The first time I traveled outside of the U.S. is when my self imaged changed for the better. I always considered myself attractive, but I always thought well it must be your personality that is so great to get all of these good looking men in your life. I never had a problem with getting boyfriends in high school or college. I am happily married to a gorgeous man, but I have a somewhat irregular nose. My husband has been to Greece many times before we met. He naturally wanted to take me to the place he loved. I was breathless by the beautiful people there. I am not bisexual but the women of Greece are attractive despite some of them having very prominent facial features. They wore sexy clothes...dressed exceptionally well compared to most American women. I often wonder why it seems Americans struggle so much with their looks. I have had the pleasure of living outside of this country for several years in 2 different countries . American women's focus on perfection here drives us to the point of low self esteem. There is a world full of beautiful people who don't have perfect noses or perfect everything. They are living there life it seems to me without pressures from society to change or be perfect. We are to hard on ourselves in the U.S. The first time I left this country was when I truly realized deep down that I am a beautiful women. I take care of myself . I dress sexy and I feel more wonderful than i have ever felt.

Weight loss changed my self image. I was teased, harassed, and I hated my life and the person I was. I lost weight and people treated me so different. I realize now that I try to do good so that I can never give people a reason to ever mistreat me. People tell me I have a good heart and I am a good person, which I am, and it is also a way for me to maintain the positive image I have of myself.
In short, weight loss is a miracle for anyone who has endured living life overweight.

Being raped several times as a young adult changed my self image. No I didn't ask for it. Nobody asks to be raped.
Every day the Lord helps me through and also brings up my self esteem.
But also after that I went to college as an adult and actually graduated. I became the only one in my family to graduate college and that definitely helped to bring up my self esteem.

I got lost on a train trip in China with my brother once. We had little money and didn't have much of a command over the Chinese language. But somehow, we made it out of the experience unscathed. I think a little higher of myself now.

I always decided I should lose some fat/inches off my waist but never got around to doing so. When I started going out with someone,I really began to worry somewhat about it. So, I started working out somewhat. Luckily she loves me for who I am and not my body.
