Before this season, it is the Cardinals who have the better regular season record. I just completed a spreadsheet that amassed all the regular season performances of the 4 major sports leagues and the current teams. My data shows:
St. Louis Cardinals GP = 18,717 W = 9,683 L = 9,034 PCT = .517
Chicago Cubs GP = 19,247 W = 9,893 L = 9,354 PCT = .514

st. louis was a better team all throughout its history, but the cubs were good IN THE 1930'S. The Cardinals have a better record in their history. They also won the second most world series

Prior to this year, the team with the most wins in MLB history is the New York/San Francisco Giants, with 10037 wins since the team was founded in 1883. Most losses is the Boston/Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves, with 9556 since 1876.
