War happens first only in the human mind. Availability of Weapons decide the scale of war !
If mind becomes peaceful, that person is free from war. So, each and all the persons must be peaceful at mind. One should first become peaceful within, and then help others to become.
It is a very labourious process, but inevitable to end war. All other efforts can only bring a temporary ceasefire, to restart on a larger scale !

The only possibility to end ALL war is to regress back to the cave man's days and completely rid the earth of all inventions. We try to avoid war through give and take but even that has consequences.
The root cause of war is nature. Human nature, that is. This world is about survival, and it is the strong who survive. It is the strong who get the cream of the crop.
As long as the word "need" is in our vocabulary, war will always be the answer.

War is caused by just a few people on the planet.
These people have there own agenda far removed from that of general society.
They are politicians, and the puppetmasters of politicians.
They have a desire to own more and control more.
It is quite obvious to normal people that they have a mental problem, but because they are in charge we feel unable to do anything about it.
What we have to do to end war is simple.
Only vote for those people who are prepared to sign a statement that they will not start a war, and will immediately end any current war.
The root cause of war is mental derangement in a few rich powerful families.

No, we can never end war on our own. War can be caused by religions like Islam of the Middle-east, but it is mostly by human greed. All humans are greedy to a point. I'll admit I am. Many rulers want more land and power, and will go to lengths to get what they want, even though it never truly makes them happy for very long.

The root cause of war? You do not need to look outside the human species for that cause, though the solution will come from ever increasing justice.

I don't think anything short of Jesus' second coming will end all wars.
As to the root cause of wars, mankind has always had an attitude toward life of ".......you slap me, and I'll slap you back." I'm not saying we should just give up on trying to stop the bad guys, but a little bit of "...turn the other cheek." now and again may make this a nicer world to live in.

the only real way to end war once and for all is for everyone to get along with each other. War is caused because someone thinks they are better than others

War is a constant for humanity. However, there are at least a couple root causes, such as differences in humans and resources humans want.

Yes. If the governments of the day butted out of others business - like letting the kids fight it out amongst themselves. Eventually with the lack of attention all the little despots would fade into nothingness. Some say all war stems from religon but I think its about money - No one would be bothered with Iraq except their is oil to be had there.

I highly doubt it. We humans have been fighting amongst ourselves since for as long as we have been on this planet, and the only thing we have learned from it is how to do it more efficently!
Fighting has been for a wide number of reasons: land, riches, politics, religion, food, and even people. You name it and at one point or another somewhere you can just about bet that at least 2 (or more) very large groups of people were fighting over it for at least 6 months or longer.
