I currently have 6 tattoos. on on my chest, foot, lower back, back of my neck and on each shoulder blade. They do hurt like most people said BUT. it can depend a lot mainly on location and pain tolerance. I got my first one on my shoulde rblade and honestly i barely felt anything.
To me a tattoo feels like when you scratch a sunburn. It tingles and stings for a few seconds, hardly anytime at all, then it cools back down (until you scratch again) but that pain is how i associate tattoos and pain to everyone i talk to.
now when i got the tat on my chest (and mind you it's very small (about quarter sized)) it hurt like no other. I cried. And i can handle a fair amount of tattoo pain I'll admit, but the more fat in the area (for me atleast) the more it hurt. My lower back hurt least around the spine and moe around my "love handle" area.
And i have heard tell and can agree that getting anything on your foot (though adorable) isn't the best pain wise choice for your first tattoo.. If you're not expecting the type of pain you're going to feel, it can be a traumatic experience.
So yes tattoos do hurt, but not so much so that no one ever wants one. I hate shots, i hate piercings, and i hate papercuts even but i am about to go back for my seventh tattoo within the next year so clearly there is something worthwhile about the pain. It really depends on your pain tolerance, the location of the tattoo, and probably the size.
Good luck if you plan to get one

first of all it depends on your tattoo artist, 2nd the colors also depends on the intensity of pain. Red for some reason hurts worst. and Obviously where you get your tattoo. tender areas are going to hurt. Do research on your tattoo artist. A good tattoo artist will have there own art work displayed and not computer print outs. Sure there will be some blood and initially it is going to hurt but after a while the area will have a numb sensation. If you have a good tattoo artist there will only be some slight tenderness and minor swelling. I have a six inch dragon on my back which took 3 hours and I had very minimal pain. Childbirth hurts worse.

Gosh... it's kind of hard to explain... for me it wasn't pain... i was just.... constant uncomfort, i couldn't help but tense up every time the needle touched my skin...
honestly? my nose piercing hurt more than my tattoo. I would recommend getting a tattoo.. i think it's something that everyone should at least try once... and that's all i am planning on doing.
FYI- I only have a small tattoo of cherries on my hip bone.
<3 Good luck!

Tattoos don't bother me but shots do. Kind of feels like ants or mosquitoes biting. Irritating but not extremely painful. But a certain amount of pain goes along with it and is part of the experience - wouldn't be a tattoo if you don't have to put up with a little pain.

I understand certain areas are worse then other.
Got one on my side, under my arm. The artist said it would feel like a bee sting and it did everytime he stuck the needle in my skin. It was insane!
Ive had my ears pierced and gotten needles no problem but this was like being attacked by bees.
Based on others' posts, it must be different person to person kind of like childbirth pains. The location probably has a lot to do with it - I would discuss with the artist about the most and least painful locations if you go forward.

A stinging pain, which once the tattoo is done being inscribed, feels like it's on fire for a day!

Depends on the person. I myself, love the pain. I guess the best way to explain how it feels is to take a razor blade and NOT CUT yourself with it, but scrape your skin with it. The coloring in part is probably the worst and it also depends alot on where you have it put. Didn't bother me, I am ready for another one.

Like you're being stabbed. (It's not like child birth...but you feel it 4-sure) It hurts at first & then the adreneline get pumping & it's kinda cool. It also hurts more on certain parts of the body.
