My wifes son age 5 will have surgery on them and I was wondering if he can fly a week later?

I would wait at least 4 weeks before flying. The cabin pressure is not so much an issue as the conditioned air. Airplanes have very dry air, and the one thing that is important in order for the scars to heal properly is keeping the throat moist.

Since airlines are still keeping most liquids off the plane, the only way to keep his throat moist is with the airline provided drinks. Not enough and I am not sure if they will be more attentive for your son. Depends on the airline personnel. If you really care about your son I would most certainly wait a few more weeks.

My 7 year old daughter had hers taken out and was back to normal in a few days. If you are asking in a general pain kind of way she was fine with eating almost anything in about 3 days. They usually will give them tylenol 3 for the pain.

Wow, heckuva surgery if he'll be able to fly after that. Are they attaching wings?
