There are a lot of those type sayings.
A severed head can see and think for 5 seconds after it's cut off.
If you are falling in a dream and you hit the bottom before you wake up you die.
They live on because you can't prove or disprove them.
A lot of people that think they are going to die, but don't, report thinking about their life and missed opportunities, regrets, loved ones, or just say "I saw my life go right before my eyes".
I'm sure it is different for everyone.

I suppose those people who said that actually asked the persons whom they're about to shoot what they're thinking. Like, at gunpoint, "What are you thinking now while looking at the barrel of the gun and before you die?"

I think the last thing you better think is ahh this is gonna hurt, espically if I don't do it right the first time, and i'm paralized, or one eyed, or something genious like that....
