Yes. For a simple example, some people like to be restrained and to lose control in sexual contexts. Some even want to live in master/slave relationships as slaves. Some people voluntarily restrict themselves to moral codes and even call themselves slaves of Jesus. Other people would prefer to be safe at the expense of their freedoms. If they believe that the loss of certain freedoms will make them safe, they will accept the loss of those freedoms; they do not want them. And small children usually do not want freedom if it means no one is taking care of them.

In the real world freedom trades off against other things - being safe, loved, cared for, fulfilling your purpose as a human being, or whatever else. People gladly, of their own free choice, give up their free choices in order to obtain other goods.

There are many people on earth who do not want certain freedoms. Perhaps everyone.

Yes, there are people on earth that do NOT want freedom. This can be due to a variety of factors -- upbringing in an environment where they are DEFINITELY NOT free to make any choices on their own or decisions, a repressive regime that has controlled people for so long that they do NOT know anything else, FEAR of Terrorists or Extremists, and Cultural/Regional mores and the way they raise their male and female children.

We may have less freedom than we think we do, partly because we do not realize that every time we choose one thing, we are choosing against all the others. The child at the ice-cream parlor, when asked, "What flavor do you want...?" says "I want ALL of them!" We laugh at the child, but we forget that choosing one flavor means you choose against all the others that you do NOT have.

Having pointed that out, there are people who are unable to choose. Life is short and it is like having a magic wish that we must use in ten seconds or lose out on the opportunity. We panic, some of us.

Then, some of us are bitter, having been disappointed. And they no longer want the freedom that they have and the responsibility that goes along with it. they would rather live out their lives as irresponsible nonentities than once more take the risk of trying, with all the effort and risk that entails.

the majority of people, i think. look how many people are scared by total freedom and instead desire an external force imposing a purpose and meaning on them. almost all people find their meaning in unfreedom, whether its in a religion which tells them how to act and what their meaning is, a community which provides them with purpose, a nationalism which makes them a part of a larger whole, a job that gives them something to do, etc. whenever a person does obtain freedom their first act is almost always to find a way to get rid of that freedom.

freedom is unhuman it seems. i don't mean this as a criticism of people as a whole. just that we have some very unrealistic ideas about the nature of people.

read "escape from freedom" by erich fromm. its a very good book.

plenty of people on the earth dont want freedom. most being those who are easily brainwashed and sit in front of the tv all day. everyone out there who follows the opinions and ideals of the general public. none of them want freedom. im sure living deep, down in many souls out there, lives a need to be dominated. but having someone to make your choices for you is indeed a form of freedom, freedom from original thought and lack of independent ideals...

Everybody wants freedom. The tricky thing is that very few people are willing to trust anyone else with freedom. They only want it for themselves so that they can live their lives the way they want to without having to tolerate other people who might bug them.

Perhaps the question should be;
Is there anyone that is truly free.
Don't we all have responsibilities that we must fulfill?
Don't we all struggle to get the things we want in this life just in order to lie down and die?
Are we ever truly free?
Or is that what death is, freedom?

Yes.Millions.
People who exchange freedom for "security".
They want the state to take care of their lives ,work ,housing etc and they settle for a mediocre life as long as they don't have to worry. That is why they vote for larger governments ,more restrictions ,more "social security" ,more state interference in our lives ,
in our work and in our thoughts ,less responsibilities ,less globalization ,less freedom....
