You know the one that goes:

Well where oh where can my baby be
The Lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven so I've got to be good
So I can see my baby when I leave this world

Well it was first done by J. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers in the early 50s. Over time this song has been redone over 500 times by many many artists. The most popular of these remakes was recorded a few years ago by Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam made it a hit again which is something that most artists have not achieved.

It depends on which version you are looking for...

It was written by Wayne Cochran and originally performed by Wayne Cochran & the C.C. Riders but it didn't get much play.

In 1964, J. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers did a version of the song that hit #2 on the charts.

Wednesday remade the song in the 70's and it got to #34.

Pearl Jam coved it in the late 90's.

true story.....look it up on yahoo or whatever, and I just found this out, that the guy who sang the original hit in the 60's died in a car accident like the song, shortly after it became a hit...doesn't
sound plausible, but did happen...weird!
