Kinda fits into the maths section don't ya think?

the 10^-6 just means there are a bunch of zeroes before the significant numbers. If you chuck it into your calculator it will tell you it is 0.00000487 - 0.00000193. I'm sure you can figure it out from there.

4.87 x 10^-6 metres - 1.93 x 10^-6 metres = 2.94 x 10^6 metres

Think of the 10^-6 as a variable since it is common between the two:

4.87x - 1.93x = ____x

Then multiply it by 10^-6 if you have to.
