Banning is wrong. What's next, a good old fashioned book burning?
I decide what I find offensive, I do not need nor want the gov't to do it for me.

I dont think the repeats* are racist, but some tv shows from the '70s & '80s are racist and not funny, in fact they were always racist and not funny even in the '70 and I never liked them and refused to watch them even then.
However old does not mean no good, the silent comedys from the 1920 etc are full of non 'pc' moments, sexist, racist and they even have, shock horror, smoking in them, but many are still very funny because they were funny when they were first made, and a wonderful insight into life of the era.
The silent movies were not made to be intentionaly sexist or racist but were just a reflection of the era. In the case of "Love thy neighbour" which was pretending to be not racist by being racist, it was a last chance of getting racism on show before the new laws, I find no redeaming comedy in them at all, and I was always surprised they could even get any black actors to take part, the incidents of showing up the racist whites was just racist and aplogist.
This show is just a distroted reflection of a certain low level of UK society in that era and not the era in general and should not be viewed as a true reflection of what was going on then. If they are viewed at all it should be as a sociological study and not as entertainment.
Steptoe and Sons was a funny show but personnaly cringe-making as I could see certain aspects of my own family in them, my Grandfather used to own a horse and cart ect. but it was more a show of the '60s and is a wonderful insite into the social mores of the time, the beginning of the breakdown of the social classes in the uk "upward mobility" if you like, and thats what it made fun of.
* Bad grammer and sentence construciton, the repeats are not racist but the '70 shows are.

Take your question off Yahoo quick before some tw*t from the government sees it. Then you will not even have the chance to see the repeats. The 70s and 80s were the best, and I wasn't even born till 3 years before the 90s. I like Only Fools and Horses. They had some pretty cool music too.

No, we shouldn't ban repeats of television shows. Those shows were popular for a reason and people still enjoy watching them, so what's the big deal?
I think this world is way too sensitive nowadays. I don't need anyone telling me what I can and can't watch. There will always be someone who is offended by something no matter what it is. You can't please 100% of the people 100% of the time. It's impossible.
Bring on the Sanford & Son repeats!

It was disgusting when people used to laugh at Alf Garnet on till death us do part, poor bloke was only talking sense and there was Tony Blairs father in law taking the urine.
Absolutely disgraceful and racist that this poor Jewish Gentleman should be treated so.
Perhaps instead of repeats we should remake these racist 1970s programs with contemporary references.

If you don't like the show, change the channel. It's still a free country and the 1st Amendment still applies.

Times change culture changes...........
What are we gonna burn everything of the past about all other things changed???e.g. carry on films.
I dont think sooooooooooooooooooooo.
Itd be a bit daft to burn all the un P.C. stuff.
Not all the old stuff is racist. A lot of it mocks racism and is just the charactors themselves being shown up................

All in the Family was a classic show! And it was hilarious! It's entertainment. If you don't like it, don't watch it. People should lighten up a little.
