No strenuous activity within a few hours before bed, cut caffeine intake, especially in the afternoons and evenings. Get a routine going; go to bed at the same time every night and do something very calming like reading or listening to relaxing music. Make sure you are in a dark room with no distractions, and possibly try some "white" noise to drown out other noises...ie: a fan.

If you are still awake for more than 15/20 min after lying down...get up. Do not lay in bed with your mind wandering. Read awhile and try again. If all this fails after a week or two, see your doctor.

Do you have a lot on your mind when you're trying to fall asleep? If your mind keeps going and going, you can't relax. There was a long time in my life when I was like that and a good friend suggested that I write a list of the things that I needed or wanted to accomplish the next day. At first I resisted, but then I started making those lists. It helped me a lot. Now I go to sleep pretty fast.
Or you can listen to a relaxing CD if you have a personal CD player.

Theres no great answers to this one, not if its a genuine prob.
Just stay up all night. Youll soon tire of it.
Some people including myself manage on 2-3 hours a night, more on weekends.
So its tough but jus realize if nothing works u kinda just go with less sleep.
Then you could try hypnotherapy, it is supposed to be a GENUINE helpful tool for sleep probs. I know a hypnotherapist who treats insomnia. May try it myself.
If milk works or a hot bath then u didnae have a prob 2 start with!!lol. Reading yahoo answers should work also.......zzzzzzzzzzzz

Here's what I do - think of a topic (anything - book titles, film titles, actor's names, boys names, body parts, foods, cities, professions, etc.....) then go through the alphabet trying to name things that start with each letter.

The reason this helps is because it helps keep your mind away from things that may be stressing or worrying you. Except rather than trying to just "clear your mind" which can be almost impossible, it's like creating a bit of white noise in your head. Works for me almost every time.

Try a drop of lavender on your pillow, or use a little weed. personally i have found weed to be the best thing for insomnia but it depends. Some people who smoke it feel ill with no other effects. It depends on the individual. I wouldn't recommend sleeping pills. Another option is a warm bath with a drop of lavender in the water before bed. And yes masturbation or sex also helps.

Do a bit of reverse psychology - try your hardest to stay AWAKE - tell yourself you mustn't go to sleep! Find something in the darkness to stare at (I use the LED display of my alarm clock) and concentrate on staying awake to focus on it.

I spent a fortune on remedies, herbs and even an hypnotist before trying this - and it works every time for me!

Believe it or not...

When I have trouble I use the "old" COUNTING SHEEP" method...

I just start counting sheep jumping over a fence...

example...

Picture a sheep...

Then picture it jumping over a fence...

As you see it jumping over the fence say to yourself, "ONE SHEEP"

Then picture another one jumping over the fence...

TWO SHEEP...

I think when I was a kid, someone said count sheep...

I added the jumping over the fence bit...

Somtimes I don't even remember counting to twenty sheep, and I'm asleep...

You can start at other numbers as well...

Such as when you picture the first sheep jumping over the fence, you could start with...

51 sheep,

then as you picture the next one jumping over the fence,

52 sheep...

I'm getting sleepy just typing this...lol

Try it, it actually works...

It is tough to sleep especially if you have alot on your mind.

By counting shep jumping over a fence, (counting the sheep in your mind, and picturing each sheep jumping the same exact fence, and the same exact looking sheep every time, while concentrating only on each sheep jumping the fence, one at a time) you begin to concentrate on counting the sheep jumping the fence...

And the more you concentrate, the more focused you become...

And because counting sheep is boring, while you are FOCUSING, you will fall asleep...

I don't care if you have to count 100 sheep, 1000...

Just keep counting, with your eyes closed, as each sheep jumps the fence...

Sheep is at fence...

ONE SHEEP (count in your mind) as it jumps the fence...

pause...

oh, here comes the next sheep...

TWO SHEEP... as it jumps the fence...

pause,

THREE SHEEP,

as it Ju m p s t he fence

F O U R S H E E p,

F I V E

SNORE, SNORE,

YOU ARE ASLEEP,

Believe me it works...

You just have to keep counting sheep even if you feel that you still cannot sleep, and it is not working...

Just keep counting, and take your time, to picture each sheep jumping the fence...

I use this method alot...

Just keep counting, no matter what...

And you will fall asleep...

Try it tonight...

Actaully I think I know why it works, but you gave me a great idea for a yahoo question...

And that is why does it work...

I'll assure you that it works...
