The important thing to remember that over four is actually kind of different then simply dividing by four. Over a number implies that both the numerator and the denominator need to be simplified before dividing.
Put simply, the equation can be written as (6+6+2)/4 but NOT 6+6+2/4. So the first thing you have to do is solve the numerator so 6+6+2=14. Now you can divide, 14/4 and that is the same as 7/2 or 3.5.
