I bought it at a flea market. It doesn't have a brand or battery compartment.

Yes, of coarse they have batteries. There are two different types. One type you have to replace the batteries when they die. The other type, like I use on my laptop, has rechargable batteries, and a USB cable that I can plug in and recharge the batteries WHILE using it.

Yes, it should have a battery compartment.
But, better never buy wireless hardware. They always give trouble. Like, you can't find the battery compartment. Or, someone nicks it. Or, someone accidently takes it with him. This even happened to someone i met a week ago, at a computer repair location (in the back of the shop).
Or, the battery fails while making a new world record with PacMan or Doom4.
Or, when having wireless internet, you'll get hacked.
No, wireless: can't say much good about it...

If it really doesn't have a battery compartment, then a special mousepad is needed with it. The mousepad then has a (wireless or not) connection to your PC.

Some wireless mice have to be recharged via a special mousepad. Others have to be recharged with a recharger ((USB-)cable). Even some mice can be recharged by mouse movement.

Maybe someone cut off the tail, and sold it as a 'wireless' mouse. In that case, you got screwed.

Yes.If the tail is not cut off(no brand),try this:The battery compartment may be hidden under the cover of the mouuse, press it down firmly but carefully for not to break it and slide it open.
When batteries die,you can replace them. You can buy charger and rechargable batteries,so you do not have to buy new batteries again and again.
Of course they had to give you the receiver and your computer have to recognize the mouse.
i'm not familiar with wireless bateryless mouses, which have rechargable battery and are charged over USB,but i'm quite sure it is better than ones described above.

the ones i've seen use batteries. when they die, you have to replace them. depending on the type you have, you might end up going through many batteries. thats why i stopped using a wireless mouse.
but..i just searched for wireless batteryless mouses, and i found some. do they look like the ones in the links? you can search online, under google or something like that, and see if any look like your mouse.

Most wireless mice I know of use standard AA batteries. I think some wireless mice may have a battery compartment that is screwed shut.

Yes, if it's wireless it needs batteries. Also, make sure your computer recognizes it. You need the receiver to be plugged into the computer for the mouse to work. I hope you just didn't get a wireless mouse without the receiver.

it must have batteries, if not then it most come with something like charging base, which you can leave the mouse in it when you are not working, or simply you had purchased a wired mouse that someone cuts it cables!

It probably came with a adapter and they failed to give it to you.
Do you like the wireless better, I gave mine away that had a adapter I just didn't like it.
