Sexual intercourse is the physical act of betrayal - some could say there are the mental betrayals and that can depend upon how heavily impacted upon partners life that is which means defining normal levels - a continued ongoing relationship whilst seperated and with someone else is also a question of morality that has to be looked upon and wether or not it is one that is acceptable or else one day it may hurt yet again in another form

If they broke up it wasn't betrayal though. But of course it hurt him to find out she'd been w/ someone else after being w/ her for 8 years. It'll probably hurt her when she finds out he was w/ someone else too.
But to answer your question about knowing if you've betrayed someone sexually is if you both have agreed to be exclusive & make commitments to each other. Then one of the 2 goes off & is intimate w/ someone outside of the committed relationship.

whether together or not, even a snog would prove to be an act of betrayal, it is as sexual and in my opinion, more emotional then intercourse. That's my opinion. Oh and your friends girlfriend is using the 'seperation' as an exuse not to deal with her betrayal and to put your friend in a dark place, he's better off without her.

Who you asking about, same answer as before.

It's either:
1) over, so move on buddy,
or
2) you REALLY love her, so if she did sleep with this guy then you'll forgive her (because it was just a bit of sex, OK) & forget about the vows (yours or hers?) and make it work.

You've been trying for nine years, you should know by now. Time to be honest with yourself, I think.
