i need to know what needs to be done to a 4 cylindar dirt track race car

Depends where you are going to race and exactly what type of car (Mini Stock, Cruiser, etc) you will be racing. Different tracks have rules which are similar, but they're not exactly the same. One way to find out is to go to the official website of the track you are planning to race at. There will be a link for the rules for each type of race.

Yes, these people above me have a good point. Find out where you are going to or want to race at. Go to a few events and see how the good running cars are prepared and get a rule book. You might be able to buy a race ready car fairly cheap now that the season is almost over.

Find the nearest track or the one you want to race at. If they have a web site they will probably have the different class rules and tech specs on there. Listed below is that page for my local track it is not dirt and it is in Canada, but if they have it up here they probably have it in your area.
