I think it's very interesting. It's also great that the boy's parents aren't spazzing out and trying to force him into the mold that his brother presents, and let him be who he wants to be. More parents should be so decent and open-minded.

I agree that being a gay is in the genes and hormones, because when I was a little kid,I was not influenced by anything I just found out different as well as my family observed that I am unique in behaviour, but as I grow up,I observed that being gay is humiliated, descriminated and always been insulted as well as it became a very big issue to the people around you! At the same time I have 3 sisters older than me and they play paper dolls and other girly stuffs as they were taking care of me!Maybe There is a denial within myself because I have to protect my family's dignity, that is why when I get older, i tend to keep myself in closet to avoid what had happened to me as a child! But some other theories, being just influenced by mother's feminity and environment or a distance from a father, I think I have no comment on that because only gays themselves knows who they were since child and when that gayness was developed, because my case is different!Or maybe the exposures may affect the sexual preferences! At nine I was sexually abused by my 17 year old male cousin because he believes that i was a gay and will enjoy sex with men, and I think even he did not do that i will turned out to be gay too because I know myself before that abused happens!

There's an increasing amount of research supporting the theory that the environment in the womb may have a lot to do with it. My life at least suggests that there's a hereditary link, and there's adequate statistical significance for serious genetic research that's taking place. My own guess is that it's both, and probably a complex interplay of many aspects of physiology, including genetic predisposition that doesn't kick in without certain environmental forces. The behavior stuff just sounds like bad research to me. All I really know is that intellectual choice doesn't have much of anything to do with it.

From what I have read and observed, I do believe in the womb theory; that something there pre-destines a gay person's orientation. There is also a trail of genetics in my family. The research always seems to have more evidence toward gay men than lesbians, which is odd. I don't believe it is intentional, but there seems to be more proof involving gay men. Unless they do not do as much study on women. Most lesbians I have known are strictly lesbian and always have been. I have known more women to be bisexual as well. Many questions. HOWEVER, I think that acceptance is always the key to happier living for all!

Glad to see something about genes playing into the equation. I'm sure there is a genetic component in a lot of homosexuals. I hope the little boy in the story doesn't get picked on, he's awesome.

Thats a little strange. Im not use to a parent supporting the child immediately. Is that how a parent should react to a child who can almost come out at age 10? im not sure..I think so and when you know you know, but it is still a little strange that she is not upset at all. At least she isnt upsetting him.

I don't know what to make of it! There are so many variables that they are trying to tie together...that some of it seems like nonsense..other parts ring a little true..I'm gay..I know I was born that way...nuture was never part of it...At this very moment I am wearing a t-shirt that says --with the implied double entendre--"It's all in my genes".LOL

It's not sick at all! I think given society's reaction to the GLBT community, it was very brave of this family to do this interview. Good for them!

Finally, something with substantial proof that this is not something we chose!
Not that the fundies will believe it. Anything we give them, they shoot down with a biblical scripture, and intolerance.
