Why does my computer lag so bad after I haven't been on it for a long time (3-4 hours). It goes to the desktop and runs fine it's when I start a program like Firefox or something like that it takes soooo long for it to start running again how can I fix this and keep it from doing this again?

Restart it. Delete unneeded programs by going to Start> Control panel> Add/Remove Programs. Do you have the latest operating system, Windows XP? Do you have enough memory? These are all things to consider.

it slows down because either you have to many programs in your computer or your internet is slow.i suggest deleting any icons(shortcuts) that you dont use.i deleted all of mine and it loads thing a bit faster if you hardly have any,but if you have alot of icons and delete them all it "WILL" go faster.if you have slow internet then i suggest upgrading to atleast from 200kbs to 300kbs

Try defrag and check your computers hibernation settings

Try deleting temporary files and cookies also

defrag, clean registry, scan for malware, RAM might be fragmented.
